Location/Travel :

(Dakar & NKC). Travel internally as required and directed. B2B rotation expat position. 4 weeks on / off. Life support provided.

Role Synopsis :

  • The M&S Analyst is responsible for the collection, analysis and effective dissemination of operational intelligence to support security and political risk management in the M&S business.
  • To achieve this, the M&S Intelligence Analyst will maintain an effective information collection network, generate a range of reports to alert key personnel of relevant threats to security and business activity in M&S, and lead on local incident and trend analysis to assist security and stakeholder management/business continuity in M&S.

Principal accountabilities :

  • Collection, analysis and effective dissemination of relevant security information to support the intelligence-led decision-making process.
  • Work with the bp’s C&EA team in support of the management of non-technical risks inside Mauritania and Senegal.
  • Maintenance of a regular and ad hoc cycle of thematic reports to monitor current and emerging political and security trends and issues to support short to-long term business objectives.
  • Management of information databases to ensure long term trends can be effectively monitored and presented.
  • Ensuring relevant threat information is communicated to the security team in a timely manner.
  • Working with in-country External Affairs Managers and Country Heads to define appropriate mitigations in response to emerging non-technical risks.
  • Effective management of an information collection network.

Key Challenges :

  • Maintenance and continual adjustment of an effective contact network, including maintaining an awareness of M&S cultures and key social activity, to effectively manage information collection activity and local contact network.
  • Remaining proactive in the identification of potential threats and risks to business activity and the presentation of this information in written reports and verbal briefings.
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of security and political events in M&S and the immediate region and how they impact the oil and gas sector.

Criteria : Essential education

  • Graduate Degree
  • French language Essential experience and job requirements
  • Knowledge of West Africa (politics, history, culture, security, regional context).
  • An understanding of the intelligence cycle and its application in a commercial environment.
  • Previous experience in an analytical environment supporting real time operational activity.
  • Previous experience developing and/or modifying information requirements for internal stakeholders
  • Excellent written and analytical skills. Writes quickly, concisely, and with impact.
  • Briefs effectively and confidently.
  • Experience with open-source intelligence tools and techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of diligence, strong teamwork, initiative taking and accuracy with limited supervision.
  • Ability to draft detailed and accurate reports.
  • Previous energy sector experience or similar environment an advantage, but not essential.
  • Ability to quickly forge productive relationships and build networks.
  • Experience with mapping and/or intelligence/information management systems.
